Creamy mince pie milkshake

Mince pie milkshake

If this isn’t Christmas excess personified, I don’t know what is. And if ever there was a better way to use up leftover mince pies, please share it with me because I honestly don’t know what could be more delicious than said mince pies blended into a creamy slush with vanilla ice cream and creamy milk. Yes please!

Mince pies

I am feeling so festive at the moment. It might be because almost every moment of everyday is spent either listening to Christmas music or watching a Christmas film or simply staring at my glorious Christmas tree. There’s something magical that happens around this time of the year. People’s moods seem to lift and there’s a lot more happiness in the air. Here in South Africa in particular it’s a happy time because the weather is lovely, the schools have all closed for our annual holidays and the smell of braai (barbecue) fires fill the air every night. It’s just so lovely not to have to worry about deadlines or lunchboxes or the kids’ homework. We eat dinner whenever we feel like it, all routine has gone out the window and this makes me incredibly happy.

But back to these incredible shakes. I decided to use mince pies that were just about to go stale in this because what better way to avoid waste than to make a milkshake? I feel like this could be a slogan on a t-shirt, don’t you? Don’t waste, make shakes. Ok no, it’s not that good but the sentiment still counts, no? Anyway, this is the ultimate festive treat and was solely inspired by an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives where a chef at some fab restaurant blended an entire slice of apple pie into a milkshake. Genius? You betcha! So I thought, if he can do it with apple pie, surely I can do it with mince pies. And guess what? I was right! So go now, use all the mince pies you have and create these for your family. You (and they) will not be disappointed.
