I use Basil Pesto (or any pesto for that matter) quite often to add some oomph to food. There’s something magical that happens when food gets cooked off for hours. You get a depth and flavour that just can’t easily be achieved in minutes, but then again, sometimes I just can’t wait hours. I need something satisfying and delicious right then and there. That’s when things like pesto come in handy. It’s got serious punch thanks to the garlic, basil and parmesan. But one thing I find is that shop-bought pestos are often bland and boring because they don’t use good quality products. They skimp on the pine nuts (as they are admittedly very expensive), they often don’t use enough Parmesan and the basil leaves aren’t beautifull fresh. But with MD’s Basil Pesto, there is none of that.
Their pesto is packed full of pine nuts and it is one of the very first things you taste when you first take a bite. It’s also got plenty of Parmesan and it’s quite evident that they use fresher than fresh basil. It’s a very thick pesto which allows you to thin it out with olive oil to almost double the original amount which maked it incredibly good value for money.
I used this pesto in a wonderfully simple but delicious recipe which I will share with you tomorrow but for now I leave you with a few of my older recipes. The MD Basil Pesto will be just perfect used in any of these.
