I went for lunch at a new little spot yesterday only a few blocks from my home. I have driven past them a few times in the last month and have always meant to stop so when a friend suggested we meet up there for lunch, I was more than keen.
The moment I stepped foot in Ginger & Fig, I was enchanted. A small, intimate but beautiful space seating only 24 patrons with the most insane aromas wafting through the semi-open kitchen. I couldn’t wait to dig into their small, well-though out menu with items like dry-aged rib-eye burgers with guacamole and bacon jam, Lamb pie, BLT’s and Pear crostini on their lunch menu and Eggs Benedict (with home-cured bacon or smoked salmon) and French toast with Milk Jam on their breakfast menu.
On Thursdays and Fridays you can join them for their Gourmet Burger and Milkshake pairings where they pair the likes of a Lamb burger topped with butternut & almond relish with a mint, yoghurt and cumin milkshake. Can you say YUM? Their home-made juices are also incredible and the most amazing thing about this new little gem on the Pretoria food scene is that the owners are 100% committed and passionate about supporting local producers. They don’t stock big-name sodas, they use free-range and organic whenever possible and this is so obvious once you taste their amazing food. Delicious is an understatement at Ginger & Fig.
