Chocolate Pudding

 In Baked Goods, Dessert

Now I know that this is not the type of thing I should be posting on  a Monday morning. Especially not a cold and windy Monday Morning, but I just couldn’t resist. Nothing is more heart-warming than a bowl of steaming, sweet chocolate pudding. And if you add a splash of cream, well, that’s just heaven isn’t it? It also helps that this is one of the easiest puddings I’ve ever made in my life. It takes next to no time to mix the ingredients and it takes some serious will-power not to just open the oven after 5 minutes and gobble it all up. This is one of those “self-saucing” chocolate puds and therefore it should be eaten as soon as possible after taking it out of the oven. It’s still good a while later but by then the sponge as absorbed most of the sauce.

To zhoosh it up a bit, I like to add some grated dark chocolate (or chocolate chips) to the raw batter as the chocolate melts and adds another dimension of yumminess. This really is to die for and it HAS to be tried before Winter is over. And seeing as the whole country is experiencing cold-fronts this week, why not try it?

This is my good friend Donè’s recipe. Thanx’s Donè! 🙂 Visit Donè’s blog HERE.

1 cup flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
2/3 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons cocoa
125 ml milk
30g or 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

  • Combine the flour, baking powder, sugar and cocoa in a bowl.
  • Gradually stir in the milk and butter and mix until the mixture is smooth.
  • Spread the mixture into a greased ovenproof dish.

2/3 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons cocoa
300ml water

  • Mix the sugar and cocoa and add the water. Stir till smooth.
  • Pour over the pudding.
  • Bake for 30 – 35 minutes at 180 degrees.
  • Serve with cream, Ice Cream or custard

My mom has a similar recipe in her arsenal, so I know how awesome it tastes. Will remember the grated chocolate tip for next time I make it though.

I think most people have this type of recipe somewhere…it’s like Malva pudding 🙂 The grated chocolate makes it very indulgent! 🙂
