Since I was a small child, I always knew that food was going to play a big part in my life. My earliest memories consist of me in the kitchen with the women in my family teaching me how to roll dough, make sauces and boil the perfect egg (one I still struggle with to this day). This filtrated into my dreams of a home with a large, open-plan kitchen that would allow me to explore and experiment with flavours, colours, temperatures and textures.
That set the scene for my vision of a perfect home. I’m not too concerned about the bathroom layout, bedroom size (although, I do like King size beds!), or how many square metres the garden is. If the kitchen is large and inviting, with appliances that Jamie Oliver would be okay with – I’m sold! This also happens to be the year that C and I have committed to buying our first home together. This comes after two years of trawling through Property24’s website, getting excited every time that “Property matching your criteria” e-mail lands in my inbox and hoping that somewhere, some rich person will want to sell their house for a price within my budget. Obviously, that hasn’t happened. It also doesn’t help that I am the pickiest of picky people. Have you even seen the state of some kitchens? Look, I’m no snob and I don’t mind working with an old house but why was it OK back in the day for the kitchen to be shoved into a hole in the back of the house? So many of the places we’ve looked at just have no potential, so on the search goes.
Then, I stumbled upon this gem on the Property24 website. LOOK at this kitchen.
I mean, have you ever seen anything more beautiful? Can you imagine the kind of food I’ll be cooking in that kitchen The rest of the house isn’t too shabby either, right? And so it costs R11 000 000. No biggie. Mama will just have to keep that camera a-clicking at super speeds for the next gazillion years and then that baby is mine. Most definitely my #PerfectHome. Most importantly though, I want my kids to have the same positive memories I have of cooking family meals in the ktichen because that is what home is to me. So even though I can’t afford this beaut just yet, I’m sure we’ll find a home just perfect for us soon. So if you’re looking for me, I’ll be on the Property24 website all day, every day, until that happens.
