Easy Pizza Toast
Easy pizza toast was my absolute favorite quick snack as a child. My mom used to whip it up for us as a simple after school snack and I still love it to this day. Use any toppings of your choice in this 5-minute treat.
Ingredients needed
- Bread of your choice. Sandwich bread, sourdough bread or country loaf will all work well. Even English muffins or bagels can be used.
- Pizza sauce. Marinara sauce or jarred pasta sauce will work well too.
- Mozzarella cheese.
- Pepperoni/salami.
- Oregano.
Other Pizza topping ideas
- Salami / Pepperoni.
- Ham.
- Sautéed mushrooms.
- Diced pineapple.
- Tomato slices.
- Bell peppers.
- Pitted olives.
- Fresh basil.
How to make pizza toast
- Toast the bread: Pop sliced bread into a toaster or alternative toast under the grill/broiler of your oven on both sides.
- Add toppings: Place slices of toasted bread onto a rimmed baking sheet. Top the toast with pizza sauce. Scatter over grated or shredded mozzarella cheese and top with your favorite pizza toppings. Sprinkle over dried oregano and place in a hot oven.
- Bake: Allow to cook until the cheese has melted then remove from the oven and serve.
Can I make pizza toast ahead?
The toast is best served hot from the oven and if you add the toppings too far in advance the bread will go soggy. The toppings can be prepped a few days in advanced and kept in the fridge until you’re ready to go.

This was so yummy! Never heard of pizza toast before, but we stumbled on this recipe and I’m so glad we did! We used sourdough bread and Rao’s marinara sauce for ours. Toasting before making definitely was a great idea, it made ours turn out delightfully crispy and flavorful. You made dinner at our house delicious and so simple tonight, thanks for sharing!!
This is (good) crazy ; basically what my recipe is for what has cheekily been dubbed ‘poor man’s pizza!
Toasted wholemeal bread or whatever is handy, crusts being a treat;
a layer of some super market sweet chilli relish or tomato relish;
next, some grated cheeses, usually with some grated Mozzarella from the freezer;
a few drops of Lea and Perrin’s Worcestershire sauce.
Under a warm grill, watching like a hawk, rotating to ensure even grilling, until cheese grilled lightly at door. Hey Presto, a tasty treat.
This looks so good!
I’m willing to give this a try! But if I used the broiler, would I need to have the settings be on high or low?
IT really depends on your oven. I use my broiler on hot and they come out perfectly. If your broiler is very hot, rather turn the temp down a bit.
Made your recipe tonight and wow – it really is super easy! Thanks for the recipe.
Just 10 minutes for a wonderful breakfast, not bad at all.
Thanks alot for sharing a quick delicious recipe, Alida!
My kids and I loved pizza, I wondered how they were made
thank you so much! Ryder
what temperature do you set the oven on it would help to know. The vedio looks delicious but we need to know what temperature .to set the oven on.
I set mine to its highest setting because all you want to do is melt the cheese quickly.
So set my oven to 500°F and watch like a hawk? Is that how it’s done?
It shouldn’t take long at all, maybe 1-2 minutes?
When you say to preheat grill in your oven, do you mean broiler here in the states?
Yes, indeed!
How long do you grill it?
3-5 minutes should be enough.
I looked at it and my mouth watered cant wait to get home at make it
Thanks Anna!
