Langfontein Guest Farm

Langfontein Guest Farm

As some of you might know, we are currently on Holiday in the beautiful Stilbaai. And throughout this month long holiday, I will most definitely be sharing some photo’s and stories of this side of our amazing country.

Because we are travelling with twin toddlers, we knew we wouldn’t be able to do the almost 15 hour drive all in one shot so we decided to sleep over just more than half way in the picturesque Graaff Reinet (the photo of the beautiful little church was taken there).

Now, while I was searching for places to stay, I was very aware that wherever we stayed, would need to be toddler friendly (A LOT different than child friendly, let me tell you). So when I read about a quaint guest farm just a few km’s outside of Graaff Reinet, I knew it would be perfect. And the promise of freshly baked farm bread with farm butter on arrival sealed the deal.

I know that the Karoo is magical, but only for about 17 minutes. After that it’s just a whole lotta nothing. So it’s hard to believe that a place this drop-dead gorgeous is nestled in between the mountains and dryness of the Karoo.

The owner, Marliza Van den Berg, has done an INCREDIBLE job of restoring the old buildings and the feeling you get when you walk around the property is one of calm and peace. Indeed, this place, feeds your soul. Far from the noise and pollution of the city, Langfontein Guest Farm is the perfect place for you to stop over and enjoy some Karoo hospitality.

We were served dinner in our little cottage and the smell of home-made chicken pie and fresh bread wafted in the kitchen and dining room and made me drool, literally! My husband quickly offered me a serviette to be saved from the embarrassment. I have to be honest, this isn’t restaurant food. But then, I don’t want restaurant food when I’ve been travelling for 10 hours. I want homey, generous portions and flavours that can only be emulated in my gran’s kitchen. And this chicken pie was exactly that. The pastry was crisp and yet also buttery, the filling was rich and flavourful… absolute perfection.

I need not say much more about this magical place, just take a look at the pictures. I will definitely be back and next time hopefully for more than just one day.
