The Launch of KOI – Rosebank

The moment you walk into the new KOI in the new section of The Firs in Rosebank, you notice the incredibly fashionable yet calming decor and you can relax knowing that you are going to be taken care of during your visit. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail on one of the ultra-chic couches and order platter after platter of super-fresh sushi and dim sum.

KOI’s unrivalled Japanese and Chinese Chefs prepare meals with originality and great flare, making Koi not only celebrated but also legendary for its innovative cuisine. Gorgeous seared Tuna with peanut sauce, crispy calamari and delectable beef skewers are just some of the highlights on this exciting restaurant’s menu.

Rory Jossell and Greg Slotar, the owners of KOI, certainly have a recipe for success here so it’s no wonder they decided to expand their very exciting brand and open their second restaurant in Rosebank (the first is in Sandton). I can honestly say that I haven’t tasted Sushi or Dim Sum of this quality in South Africa. The first time I had Dim Sum, it was at a beautiful Hotel in Malaysia in 2007 and since then, I haven’t found anywhere that could rival the soft and flavourful dim sum I first tasted there. And I’m not lying when I say the Dim Sum at KOI was as good, if not better. And no, the people at KOI aren’t paying me for this review.

If you are in Gauteng and you need seriously good, fresh and flavourful Asian food…look no further. This is the place. I didn’t actually get a chance to look at the prices but I can assume that it won’t be ridiculously cheap. But then, Sushi shouldn’t be ridiculously cheap. You want the freshest and best possible ingredients if you’re going to be eating it raw so if you are willing to pay for quality, this is the place.
