Ingredients needed

  • Puff pastry. Try to get the best quality, all-butter puff pastry you can find. I use frozen store-bought sheets and thaw them in the fridge overnight.
  • Prosciutto. Other charcuterie like salami, Parma ham, Serrano ham or Black forrest ham will also work.
  • Cheese. I used gruyere and mozzarella but any good melting cheese will work. Brie, fontina, cheddar, etc.
  • Egg.
  • Fresh thyme. (optional)

How to make prosciutto pastry bites

Spray a 12-hole muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray or olive oil spray. Slice the puff pastry into 12 squares and push a piece of pastry into each hollow in the muffin pan. Add a piece of prosciutto to each pastry then add grated cheese. Add a few sprigs of fresh thyme. Beat the egg with a tablespoon of water then brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash. Place the pastries in a preheated oven and allow to bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a minute then gently remove them from the pan and serve.

Can I make these ahead?

The pastries can be assembled up to a day in advance. Wrap the pan with plastic wrap and place in the fridge then bake as directed. Any leftovers will keep in an airtight container for up to two days.
