FAQ

What is the best setting for soup in Instant Pot?

For meat-free soups, I would cook on high pressure for 7-10 minutes (root vegetables will take slightly longer to cook). Soups with chicken can be cooked for 10-12 minutes and soup with beef or cuts of meat (oxtail, shortrib, beef shin) that require longer traditional cooking times can be cooked for 20-30 minutes at high pressure.

How much water do you put in a pressure cooker for soup?

Always follow the recipe’s instructions as this can be different depending on the other ingredients in the soup.

How to make homemade soup more flavorful?

If using meat, make sure to brown it thoroughly as the caramelization and fond that builds up in the bottom of the pot adds a lot of flavor. Using herbs and spices as well as aromatic vegetables like onions, garlic, carrots and celery will also ensure your soup is delicious.
