Crisp and golden onion and feta cheese fritters with sweet and spicy chilli soy dipping sauce. This recipe is perfect for a starter or as a snack.
Listen, we’re starting this week off with a little bit of indulgence but sometimes on a Monday, that’s exactly what you need. Because you guys, why do I still hate Mondays so much?! I mean, I don’t have an office job, or a boss, or terrible colleagues. I get to sit in my comfy clothes and fluffy socks with no make-up on and my hair in a bun on top of my head and do my work. Am I just being a brat? (Don’t answer that!) I just have never been a fan of Mondays. So to alleviate the suffering, I am indulging in these incredible onion and feta fritters.
I whipped these up a while ago as a light dinner for us and it was an instant hit. The combination of sweet onions and salty feta cheese is a match made in Heaven. I love how the feta doesn’t melt but just softens into little nuggets of creaminess. *Swoon* While eating these, Aidan said “Mom, these taste like onion rings, but way better!” and I couldn’t agree more. Plus, as a family of onion ring-lovers, that was a pretty big thumbs up for these little fritters. The thing that I love most about food like this is that it is so unbelievably simple to throw together (you literally just throw everything in a bowl) and the end result makes you look like some kind of kitchen goddess/god. They look impressive and taste amazing. What more could you want?
I used Clover plain feta cheese for this because I find it to be just the right amount of salty for the onion’s sweetness and the texture when cooked is perfect in these fritters. Clover challenged me to come up with a great way to use feta cheese this winter and I’ll be honest with you, it’s not really a challenge at all because I use feta cheese on a daily basis.
From crumbling the salty cheese into my scrambled eggs for breakfast to adding it in abundance to salads and other vegetable dishes, it’s pretty much a constant in my kitchen. I also love pan-frying it (like you would haloumi) and serving it with a drizzle of honey. Are you drooling yet? So now that I’ve had my way with feta, it’s your turn. I want you to tell me exactly what you would do with Feta cheese this winter and I want you to be as creative as you can.

I made these fritters over the weekend for family/friends dinner and they were easy to make and a huge hit with everyone! They all loved the dipping sauce as well.
Oh, I’m so pleased to hear that Suzanne! That dipping sauce is simply awesome!
My husband and I absolutely #lovecloverfeta and use it in an array of dishes from pasta to salads. One of my favourite ways is to incorporate it into my potato bake – it adds extra creaminess and something special. I also love it in cheese muffins – irresistible!! I’ve entered on FB too and shared there.
I need to try this recipe! They look so crispy and perfect, I hope I can make mine turn out that well 🙂
It’s really a ridiculously simple recipe Amy so I’m sure yours will be just as good. Just make sure your oil is hot enough so the batter starts frying the moment it hits the hot fat. Let me know how they turn out?
This looks like such an incredible recipe. First and foremost I am about to go and buy myself a tub of #lovecloverfeta and get my cooking on to produce this delicious recipe! #simplydelicious. I’d like to make a really great beef burger stuff with feta, basil and bacon and make these incredible onion and feta fritters to accompany this meal. Mouthwatering!
Love that idea! Thanks Sarah!
Wow Alida, these look wonderful! I LOVE the flavors! Such a creative recipe! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your lovely comment Mary Ann!
Ordinarily I would be all over this……BUT I hate onions. I eat spring onions, but not normal onions…such a pity! lol. Looks great though if you’re an onion lover!
It’s because of lunchboxes and school bag checks…I guess even if I was able to work from home in my pj’s, that part of Monday just sucks BIG TIME!
Oh dear! You could do this exact recipe with lots of other vegetables though. I think courgette spaghetti could be quite cool and will give you a similar result to the onion. I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates Mondays! And YES! Those damn lunchboxes!!
Yum, looks good.
And yes, you’re a brat.
I would expect nothing less from my older brother. 😉
Excellent idea, on the shopping list it goes 🙂
Yay! 🙂
