Galentine’s Dinner at Home

There’s something magical about a beautifully set table. It transforms a simple dinner into an occasion, turns a meal into a memory. This Galentine’s dinner was inspired by the most gorgeous floral table linen from Cara Saven Decor. The moment I saw it, I knew I had to create a soft, romantic tablescape around it.

The Table Styling

I kept the styling simple but impactful: a meadow-like floral arrangement running down the center of the table with soft pinks, whites and greenery that echoed the delicate pattern on the linen. I used simple white plates for a relaxed feel and matching linen napkins. I also found these beautiful pink glasses that just echoed the theme so beautifully. Plenty of candlelight created that warm, intimate glow.

The key to a beautiful table is creating an atmosphere. Flowers, candles and pretty linens do most of the heavy lifting. Everything else is just details.

The Menu

I wanted a menu that felt light and fresh but still special enough for a celebration with all of the dishes prepped in advance so I could sit back and relax once my guests arrived. Here’s what I served:

Steak Tagliata

Perfectly grilled steak sliced thin and served with arugula, shaved Parmesan and a sun-dried tomato dressing. It’s elegant, flavorful, and surprisingly easy to pull off. I cooked the steak (I used filet mignon) two hours in advance and kept it covered with foil at room temperature until right before serving.

Grilled Tomato Caprese Salad

Grilling the tomatoes adds a smoky sweetness that takes this classic salad to the next level. Fresh mozzarella, basil and a simple dressing make it perfect for summer entertaining. I grilled the tomatoes the morning of the event and kept them at room temperature until I was ready to assemble the salad.

Chocolate Mousse

Rich, silky chocolate mousse served with whipped cream and fresh raspberries. I made this in a big, beautiful serving dish and served it table-side (French-bistro style).

Tips for Hosting a Romantic Dinner at Home

Start with the table. A beautiful tablescape sets the tone for the entire evening. Invest in good linens, use fresh flowers and don’t underestimate the power of candlelight.

Keep the menu simple. Choose dishes you’re comfortable making and that can be partially prepped ahead. The steak tagliata and caprese can be assembled just before serving and the mousse is made the night before.

Serve family-style. Put platters in the center of the table and let guests help themselves. It’s more relaxed and encourages conversation.

Set the mood with music. Create a playlist beforehand – something soft and ambient that doesn’t overpower conversation.

Prep your serving pieces ahead. Know what dish will go on which platter. I even tape little labels underneath so I don’t have to think about it on the day.

Don’t forget drinks. Have wine chilled, water glasses filled and perhaps a simple cocktail or mocktail ready to greet guests.

Enjoy yourself. The best host is a relaxed host. If you’re stressed, your guests will feel it. Choose a menu you can manage comfortably, prep what you can ahead and actually sit down and enjoy the meal with your friends.
