Why you’ll love this air fryer rotisserie chicken recipe

  1. It’s so easy! Honestly, you can’t ask for an easier whole chicken recipe. Prep time is no more than 5 minutes and the chicken cooks in 30-45 minutes, depending on its size.
  2. It only requires 3 ingredients. Chicken, oil, seasoning. That’s it. I used a store-bought chicken seasoning mix. Most rotisserie chickens are seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Play around with those spices if you want to make your own spice mix.
  3. It delivers the juiciest chicken with crisp, golden skin. Not kidding here, the air fryer consistently delivers the juiciest chicken, ever! This delicious rotisserie-style chicken is no different.

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Whole chicken. Depending on the size of your air fryer basket, you’ll likely need to use a chicken approximately 2-2.5lb/1kg-1.5kg in weight.
  • Oil. I usually use olive oil or avocado oil but use any vegetable oil of your choice.
  • Seasoning. I used a seasoning salt containing salt, garlic powder, paprika and black pepper. Most stores have a chicken seasoning or chicken salt of sorts but you can also make your own spice mixture. Herbs like oregano, thyme and rosemary are all delicious with chicken.

How to make rotisserie chicken in an air fryer

  1. Make sure any giblets, etc. are removed from the cavity of the chicken then pat the entire chicken dry with paper towels.
  2. Pour over the oil and rub into the skin then sprinkle over the seasoning generously (make sure to season the cavity too).
  3. Air fry the chicken for 30-40 minutes, depending on the size, until the skin is crisp and golden and the chicken is cooked through. Serve with lemon wedges and sides of your choice.

Storing and making ahead

Any leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The chicken can be seasoned and kept in the fridge for a few hours before cooking.

Can I make this in the oven?

Absolutely! Place the seasoned chicken on a wire rack set over a sheet pan then roast at 400°F/200°C for 45-60 minutes.
