Easy Grilled Broccoli Salad
This grilled broccoli salad with creamy avocado, goat’s cheese and red onion is the perfect side salad for meat and fish.

- Broccoli. Broccolini/tender stem broccoli can be substituted.
- Olive oil.
- Salad greens. I used a mixed bag of baby butter lettuce, rocket/arugula and basil but any salad leaves will work.
- Red onion. Shallot, spring/green onion can be used instead.
- Avocado.
- Soft goat’s cheese. I prefer using Chevin but Chevre can also be used. If you can’t find soft goat’s cheese, feta cheese is a good substitute.
- Salad dressing. I used my lemon dressing recipe.
How to make broccoli salad
- Grill the broccoli: Slice the broccoli into florets. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill over high heat (or in a grill pan) until just cooked and caramelized.
- Make the salad: Scatter the salad greens into a large bowl or serving platter then top with the grilled broccoli. Slice red onion thinly and slice/chop the avocado. Add red onion, avocado and chunks of soft goat’s cheese to the leaves and broccoli. Make the dressing of your choice and pour over the salad then serve.
Can I make broccoli salad advance?
The broccoli can be grilled a day in advance and kept covered in the fridge. Allow to come to room temperature before adding to the salad. The salad (without the avocado) can be assembled up to 2 hours in advance and kept covered in the fridge. Add the avocado and salad dressing right before serving.

- 1 head broccoli

For the salad
- 4 cups salad greens
- ½ red onion thinly sliced
- 1 avocado sliced
- 100 g (3oz) goat's cheese roughly crumbled/sliced
- Lemon dressing
