Anything wrapped in pastry is a guaranteed crowd pleaser so it’s no surprise that pigs in a blanket are always the first to go at parties and gatherings. Adding Everything Bagel seasoning adds flavor and texture to this much-loved appetizer.

Ingredients

Full pigs in a blanket recipe can be found in the recipe card.

  • Cocktail sausages. Mini smokies, cut up hot dogs or mini frankfurters will all work.
  • Puff pastry. I prefer using all-butter store bought puff pastry. Remember to thaw the pastry overnight in the fridge before using.
  • Dijon mustard (optional).
  • Egg.
  • Everything Bagel seasoning.

How to make pigs in a blanket

  1. Prepare the pastry: Roll the thawed puff pastry out on a lightly floured surface to approximately ½cm thick. Cut the pastry into 16 even squares.
  2. Assemble the pigs in a blanket: Brush each piece of pastry with Dijon mustard (if using) then top with a cocktail sausage. Roll to encase the sausage with pastry. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle generously with Everything Bagel seasoning.
  3. Bake: Place the pigs in a blanket in the oven and allow to bake for 15-20 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Remove from the oven, allow to rest for 10 minutes then serve.

Can I use crescent roll dough instead?

You can use pretty much any pastry or dough for pigs in a blanket, although puff pastry is my favorite because it is so easily found across the globe. Crescent roll dough can be used but might need to be trimmed into suitable sized slices to roll around the sausages.
