The Simply Delicious Christmas Cookie Box 2026

If you’ve been here for a while, you’ll know my annual Christmas Cookie boxes are a bit of a highlight. This year’s is no different. Eight delicious, beautiful cookies all packed in a box, making the most perfect homemade gift. It’s Christmas time!

Christmas Cookie Box 2026 with 8 beautiful and delicious cookies.

This year’s might be my favorite yet. I wanted to keep things classic but make sure that every cookie is absolutely delicious. I also wanted to make sure there’s a good balance of OTT chocolatey, simple and sweet, and a few sophisticated options so the cookie box works for the entire family.

The good news is that every single one of these cookies can be made ahead, most of them weeks to months ahead, which means you don’t have to lose your mind trying to bake eight batched in a single day. I’m going to walk you through the lineup, my timeline for getting it all done without a breakdown and exactly how I pack the boxes so the cookies stay fresh and don’t turn into a crumbly mess.

Salted Caramel Chocolate Chunk Cookies with pools of chocolate and caramel.

Salted Caramel Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Chewy, gooey chocolate chunk cookies with pockets of salted caramel. These are the crowd-pleaser of the box. Rich, indulgent and the kind of cookie that makes people ask for the recipe before they’ve even finished chewing.

Pecan snowball cookies rolled in powdered sugar.

Pecan Snowball Cookies

Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cookies loaded with toasted pecans and rolled twice in powdered sugar. All known as Mexican wedding cookies or Russian tea cakes. They look like little snowballs and they’re so easy to make.

Spiced sugar cookies

Spiced Sugar Cookies

These are always a feature in my holiday cookie boxes – they’re a crowd favorite. Classic sugar cookies dipped in spiced sugar for the ultimate festive treat.

Lemon white chocolate pistachio cookies drizzled with lemon icing.

White Chocolate Pistachio Lemon Drizzle Cookies

Bright, zesty cookies studded with pistachios and white chocolate with a tangy lemon drizzle. They’re a little unexpected in a Christmas Cookie box but that’s exactly why I included them. They taste like a full dessert and add a lovely fruity element to the finished box.

Ginger snap cookies

Ginger Snap Cookies

Crisp around the edges with chewy centers and packed with warm ginger, cinnamon and golden syrup flavor. A Christmas classic for a reason.

Squares of Rosemary Shortbread on a serving plate.

Rosemary Shortbread

Simple, elegant and not-too sweet. I specifically included these in the box for their sophisticated flavor. I thought they would be a hit with adults but I’ve been surprised to see how much kids like these too. The rosemary is fragrant and there but not overpowering and the buttery shortbread is just a total crowd-pleaser.

Strawberry Jam Thumbprint Cookies

Buttery shortbread cookies with a little well of strawberry jam in the center. Although, you could use absolutely any jam or preserves of your choice. They’er tender, fruity and look just beautiful in the cookie box.

Iced and decorated Sugar cookie wreaths on a wire rack.

Made from the same dough as the spiced sugar cookies but cut into wreaths, iced and decorated with festive sprinkles. They’re simply delicious and so easy, the kids can do most of the work themselves.

The key to pulling off a cookie box this size is not trying to bake everything in one day. Spready the dough-making, baking and decorating over a week or two (or even more, if you have the time) and your future self will thank you.

  1. Start with a plan: decide how many boxes you’re making and work backward to figure out how many batches of each cookie you need.
  2. Label your bags: Especially for people with allergies. A little tag with the cookie allergens is a thoughtful touch.
  3. Pack on the day: Don’t pack the box until the day you’re giving it or at most the day before. The bags will keep the cookies fresh for several days once packed, but the longer a closed box sit, the more moisture builds up.
  4. Shipping tip: If you’re shipping a box, choose the sturdiest cookies. Ginger snaps, white chocolate lemon drizzles, thumbprints, snowballs, shortbread and sugar cookie shapes.

Baking Timeline

2-3 weeks+ ahead

Make all the doughs. Every single one of these cookie doughs freeze beautifully (all the instructions are in each recipe). Flash-freeze, bag them up and store in the freezer until bake-day.

3-5 days ahead

Start baking the cookies. Sugar cookies and shortbread last well. Bake them, store them undecorated (you can however cover the shapes in their spiced sugar) in airtight containers.

1-2 days ahead

Bake the snowball cookies and do their two coats of powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container. You can also decorate the sugar cookie wreaths now and bake the ginger snap biscuits.

Packing the box

Bake the chocolate chunk, thumbprints and lemon drizzle cookies. Pack each type of cookie in its own small plastic or cellophane bag before placing them in the box. This does three things. First, it keeps strongly flavoured cookies from transferring their flavor to milder cookings. Second, it keeps soft, chewy cookies separate from crispy one so nothing goes stale or soggy. Third, it makes the box last so much longer because each bag acts as its now little airtight environment.

Choose your box

A sturdy gift box, a tin or even a nice cardboard bakery box all work. You want something deep enough to layer cookies without crushing them. Line the bottom with parchment paper or tissue paper.

Bag the cookies.

Place each variety in its own small clear bag or cellophane bag and tie with a ribbon, twist tie or festive sticker. You can include 3-5 cookies of each typer per box, depending on the size. Clear bags won’t ruin the look of the cookie box.

Layer strategically

Put the sturdiest cookies on the bottom: Ginger snaps, rosemary shortbread and white chocolate lemon drizzle cookies. Tuck crumpled tissue or parchment paper between the bags so nothing shifts during transport.
