Air Fryer Crusty Rolls
Baking bread in your air fryer couldn’t be easier. These air fryer crusty rolls are light and fluffy with a crisp crust, these rolls can be baked in 20 minutes and are delicious slathered in butter.

There is nothing quite like freshly baked bread and the air fryer makes baking an absolute breeze. From the perfect hot cross buns to creamy cheesecake, I love turning to my Instant Pot Vortex Plus Versazone air fryer when I need to bake something. The generous basket size means I can bake a big batch of rolls so that we can have leftovers for lunch the next day.
The dough I used is very simple to make and requires no fancy techniques or ingredients. A quick knead followed by an hour long rise and you’re good to go!

Ingredients Needed
- Flour. All purpose flour/cake flour/plain flour.
- Instant yeast.
- Sugar.
- Salt.
- Olive oil. Melted butter can be substituted.
- Warm water.

How to bake bread rolls in the air fryer
- Make the dough: Combine the yeast with the warm water and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer and allow to stand for 5 minutes until foamy. Add the remaining ingredients then knead with the dough hook attachment for a few minutes until the dough is soft, pliable and just ever-so-slightly tacky. If the dough is too sticky, add a few more tablespoons of flour and knead in.
- Allow to rise: Cover the dough with a damp tea towel then allow to rise in a warm spot for an hour or until doubled in size.
- Form the bread rolls: Tip the dough onto a floured surface then divide into 8 equal pieces. Press each dough ball into a rough rectangle then roll into a tight roll. Line your air fryer basket with a piece of parchment paper then add the rolls and allow to proof for another 30 minutes. Brush with egg wash right before baking.
- Bake: Place the basket into the air fryer then air fry at 170°C/340°F for 15-20 minutes or until the buns are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped. Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Hi Alida,
I was wondering about the egg wash, unless I missed it in the ingredient list, do we add a bit of water to the egg wash?
Thank you!
You could but I often just use beaten egg.
