If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on fresh passion fruit, making a passion fruit syrup or lemonade with them is a great way to preserve the beautifully aromatic fruit.

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Passion fruit. I used fresh passion fruit but you can use frozen or canned pulp or passion fruit puree too.
  • Fresh lemons.
  • Sugar.
  • Water.

How To Make Passion Fruit Lemonade

Combine passion fruit pulp, freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Allow to cool, pass through a sieve and allow to cool before serving.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups passionfruit pulp I used fresh passionfruit but frozen or canned can also be used (I used 12 medium-sized passion fruit)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar add more if you want it sweeter
  • 4 cups water
  • ice to serve

Instructions

  • Halve the passion fruit and scoop the seeds and pulp into a small saucepan.
  • Stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar and water then bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Remove from the heat.
  • Pass the lemonade through a fine mesh sieve to remove the seeds. I like adding a few spoonfuls of seeds back to the lemonade for aesthetic purposes but this is optional.
  • Allow to cool then transfer to a jug, pitcher or fridge-safe containers and serve over ice.
  • For a delicious cocktail, add a shot of vodka, gin, tequila or rum to a glass over ice then top with the passion fruit lemonade and finish with a splash of sparkling water. Add garnishes like lemon slices and fresh mint then serve.
