  • Chicken wings. I buy whole wings and split them into the flat (wingette) and the drumette but your butcher can do that for you too.
  • Chipotle peppers in Adobo. Buy the canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for the best flavor.
  • Honey.
  • Garlic cloves. Garlic powder can be substituted.
  • Smoked paprika.
  • Lemon juice. Vinegar can be substituted.

  • Worcestershire sauce.
  • Salt.

How to bake chicken wings

  1. Make the marinade: Blend chipotle peppers (with the adobo sauce), honey, garlic, smoked paprika, lemon juice, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and a pinch of salt together until smooth.
  2. Marinate the wings: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels then place the chicken wings in a large bowl and pour over the marinade. Toss to coat the chicken wings then allow to marinade for at least 20 minutes but ideally overnight, covered in the fridge.
  3. Bake the chicken wings: Preheat the oven to 200ºC/390ºF and line two sheet pans with parchment paper or foil. Place the chicken wings in a single layer on the baking sheet and brush liberally with the marinade. Place in the oven and allow to bake for 15 minutes until caramelized then turn over the chicken wings. Baste with the marinade and bake for another 10-15 minutes until sticky and cooked through. Remove from the oven and serve.

Can I make chicken wings in the air fryer?

Absolutely! Chicken wings are great cooked in the air fryer. Place the chicken wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer then cook at 200ºC/390ºF for 20 minutes, flipping half way, until sticky and cooked through.

What to serve with baked chicken wings

Baked wings are great on their own as a game-day snack but if you’re prefer to turn them into a meal there are so many great side dishes to choose from. Jalapeño Ranch is a great easy side dish to dip the wings into. Oven baked fries, coleslaw, potato salad, corn on the cob or a simple crudité platter are all good options.
