Ingredients and Substitutions

We love pigs in a blanket made with frozen puff pastry but you can use any dough of your choice. Crescent roll dough, shortcrust pastry, etc. can all be used.

  • Cocktail sausages. Cocktail sausages are easy to use but you can use cut up hot dogs/vienna sausages or chipolatas can all be substituted.
  • Store-bought puff pastry.
  • Egg.
  • Optional: I sprinkled Everything Bagel seasoning mixed with grated Parmesan cheese over the top but this is optional. Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, etc. can all be used.

How to make pigs in a blanket in the air fryer

  1. Cut thawed puff pastry into 2-3cm/1in strips. Roll each sausage in the pastry then brush with egg wash. Combine the everything seasoning with grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the cheesy mixture over each pig in a blanket.
  2. Transfer the pigs in a blanket to the air fryer basket (make sure there’s a little space in between them for the pastry to puff up). You night need to cook them in batches if your air fryer basket isn’t big enough to hold them all at once.
  3. Air fry for 18 minutes at 185°C/365°F until the pastry is crisp and golden brown. Remove from the air fryer then serve with dipping sauce of your choice.

Can I make this ahead?

Yes, you can make this dish in advance. They can be served at room temperature so you can make them up to 3 hours ahead and any leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes until hot and crisp. I also like freezing the uncooked pigs in a single layer then storing in freezer bags for up to 3 months then bake/air fry from frozen.
