Ingredients

  • Ground turkey / Turkey mince.
  • Breadcrumbs. Fresh or dried will both work.
  • Egg yolk. 
  • Cheddar cheese. Gruyere, Parmesan,
  • Jalapeños. 
  • Chives. 
  • Garlic powder. 
  • Oregano.
  • Salt and pepper. 
  • Burger buns, lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese slices, to serve.

How to make grilled turkey burgers

  1. Make the burger patties: Combine turkey, breadcrumbs, egg yolk, grated cheese, finely chopped jalapeño, chopped chives, garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix until just-combined. With damp hands, form the mixture into four burger patties.
  2. Grill the patties: Cook the patties over medium-high heat in a grill pan or on an outdoor grill until golden brown on both sides and cooked through.
  3. Assemble the burgers: Split and toast the buns then top with mayonnaise, lettuce, the grilled turkey patties, cheese, tomato and onion. Serve immediately.

How long to grill turkey burgers

Depending on thickness, turkey burgers take between 5 and 7 minutes per side to grill over medium-high heat. The burgers are cooked when they read 71ºC/160ºF on a meat thermometer. Remove from the grill and allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

  • 500 g (1lb) turkey mince / ground turkey
  • ½ cup fresh breadcrumbs (¼ cup dried breadcrumbs)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 jalapeno finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp chives finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper

  • sliced onion

  1. Are ground turkey and chicken interchangeable? We are still in lockdown, due to the pandemic, it is going to 35 C, and I don’t want to be in a line-up to enter the grocery store. BUT, I have frozen ground chicken and I wonder if I could use it instead. 🙂
