- Meat: Grilled steak, Carnitas, Pork al Pastor.
- Chicken: Grilled chicken, shredded chicken, fried chicken.
- Fish: Spicy salmon, shrimp/prawns.
- Salsa: Corn salsa, 5-minute salsa, Pico de Gallo.
- Guacamole.
- Sour cream.Â
- Avocado.
- Red onion.
- Lime wedges.Â
- Cilantro/coriander.
- Sliced jalapeños.
- Tortillas: Corn/flour.
How to make a taco board
- Cook the protein: I used steak and chicken but you can use any protein of your choice. I marinated the steak with oil, lime juice, taco spice, fresh garlic, salt and pepper. The chicken got the same treatment but I added fresh coriander/cilantro to the marinade. I then grilled the steak and chicken until done to my preference. Allow to rest for 5 minutes then slice.
- Assemble the board: When the protein is done and you’ve made the salsa and guacamole, it’s time to assemble the board. Use the biggest serving board or platter you have and add the chicken, steak, bowls of salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Warm the tortillas (I just heated them over the flame of my gas hob but they can be grilled too). Add lime wedges, sliced avocado, sliced red onion, jalapeños and fresh coriander/cilantro. Serve immediately.
Can I make this ahead?
The protein can be marinated up to 24 hours ahead. If you’re including something like carnitas or shredded chicken, that can be prepared the day before. Salsas (except for pico de gallo) can be made the day ahead as well.

Hi Alida, where, oh where, do you find these lovely small soft corn tortillas? The only kind I seem to see in the supermarkets are the packs of generic flour ones, or the packs of hard ones which shatter into a million pieces when you bite into them??
I buy them from a Mexican food supplier and order them online. If you Google corn tortillas in your city you’ll find a supplier if you’re lucky. 😉
