Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan
This crispy air fryer chicken parmesan is absolutely delicious and easy to make while being a little healthier. We love it served with pasta for dinner.

Ingredients and Substitutions
For the crispy chicken
I used my chicken schnitzel recipe and for the breading but you can use the breading from my Parmesan Crusted Chicken too. You’ll need boneless skinless chicken breasts, flour, eggs and panko breadcrumbs. You can use dry breadcrumbs or fresh breadcrumbs too but the end result won’t be quite as crispy as panko bread crumbs. Adding parmesan cheese to the breading adds incredible flavor but is an optional addition. I also seasoned the breading with salt, black pepper and garlic powder.
For the Chicken Parmesan
- Marinara sauce. Use any jarred tomato sauce as substitute.
- Mozzarella cheese.
- Fresh basil, to serve.

How to make chicken parmesan in the air fryer
- Start by breading the chicken. Dredge the chicken cutlets first in seasoned flour, then beaten egg and finally in the panko mixture.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F/205°C then place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You might need to do this in batches if your air fryer basket isn’t big enough. Spray with olive oil. Air fry for 10 minutes, flipping over halfway, until the chicken is crisp and golden.
- Spoon the tomato sauce over the chicken then add mozzarella cheese. Air fry for another 5-7 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Remove from the air fryer, garnish with fresh parsley and basil and serve.
Can I make this ahead?
Chicken Parmesan is definitely best served right after serving. The crispy crust will go soggy if allowed to sit for too long. However any leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I wouldn’t recommend reheating in the microwave oven because the chicken won’t crisp up nicely. Reheat in the air fryer until the bottom crust is crisp again.

Serving Suggestions
This air fryer chicken parmesan recipe is delicious served with pasta or gnocchi tossed with marinara sauce but it’s also great with a big arugula salad, potatoes or fries. A vegetable side dish like asparagus, broccoli or green beans are all delicious too.
